C is 4 months old

Head circumference: 39.8cm

Weight: 12 lbs. 7 oz.

Length: 23.7 inches

Her doctor’s appointment was on the 17th, a bit late because we were out of town. I think she may be a petite thing like her Momma, she’s gone from the 45% in length and weight to the 20-18%. But developmentally she’s ahead of schedule and the doctor had no concerns!

Eyes: Blue

Hair: The dark back fringe remains, but it’s looking lighter on top.

Firsts:  Rolling onto her tummy. Laughing. Mimicking Momma and Daddy. Rolling from her tummy to her back. Plane ride (4 of them!).

We started the month a bit less fussy than month 3; thank goodness. However she also decided not to really nap for a while. One of the best things about this month is her mimicking. When we buzz our lips at her she crews up her face in concentration and purses her lips and tries her hardest to imitate us. It makes us laugh which makes her smile and it’s great! Towards the end of the month she really started laughing. She also started having some sleep issues; not wanting to go down at bedtime or after nursing in the middle of the night. Not sure if it was the travel, a 4 month sleep regression or teething…?  And right at the end of the month our little roller became a champion rolling not only onto her tummy, but from tummy to back. She’s even drawing up her knees in an early effort to crawl.

Saturday, August 16, 2014  Playing with Daddy before bath time. This is a game Daddy has been trying almost since C was born and this was the first time she liked it and gave J big smiles. It also works well as an alternate method of burping, which we discovered quite by accident.

Sunday, August 17, 2014  Watching preseason football with us. Most importantly, this was her introduction to Peyton Manning. She loves watching football, doubtless because of the fun contrasting colors and movement, but we’ll take it.

Ohio trip, End of summer, Catherine’s first time away from home

Most trips back to Ohio to visit family and friends are somewhat tiring; so many wonderful people to try and see and not enough time to do it in. This was especially true on this trip! A lot of family and friends had yet to meet C in person and so not only did we travel to Ohio, we spent a lot of time in the car going to see family and my gracious Mom and step-dad opened their home to quite a few visitors. It was so wonderful to see so many people and to watch them meeting our daughter. But it was also a lot of work packing up an infant and all that they require and trying to make sure she still got a chance to eat and sleep when she needed to. However, I wouldn’t change a thing. It was a wonderful trip; and we are so blessed that so many people love us and now C!

This trip was different; not a lot of fun outings or shopping trips or restaurant meals. Lots more time trying to work a schedule around naps and nursing sessions and sleep deprived parents. But my Momma and I did sneak away to the mall for a few hours of Land’s End shopping and a hot, buttery Auntie Anne’s pretzel. And despite the fact that my sister is also juggling an infant and back to work teaching, we saw them almost every day. C met all of her great grandparents but one (my Grandpa who is in Cincinnati). She met my step-dad for the first time. She met my brother and his girlfriend. She met Jared’s sister and his Uncle and Aunt. She met several of my good friends. And although I got a lot of pictures, I still didn’t manage to get ones with everyone we saw.

The weather was mostly wonderful; hot and sunny and summer. Bonus; no bugs! Well, maybe not no bugs, but far less than here. We sat outside for hours and hours.

J got in quite a bit of golf with his Dad which he loved. Between work and a new baby this summer he hasn’t been out as much as he’d have liked to.

We even got to see my Dad for a few days at the start of our trip which was a nice surprise. He lives in Michigan and we didn’t think he’d be in Ohio at all during our last minute trip.

There isn’t much more to really say about the trip other than it was wonderful. It was more about moments with a fast growing little girl, two little girls really, that will never come again. About sitting in the last of the summer sun and savoring. About eating delicious fresh tomatoes and sweet corn and my favorite cake. About the luxury of being surrounded by family and dear friends that so often we don’t get to see.

Here are the pictures that didn’t go into C’s monthly blog posts!
