After a delayed flight and some nasty, rainy weather my Mom and Aunt arrived just after midnight on Saturday, February 19th! J also arrived home from his nineth trip that day. Well, it was technically the day before; he got home on Friday afternoon. Despite his best efforts he fell asleep waiting for our guests to arrive so I went and collected them from Sacramento myself.
Saturday was a pretty lazy day. We all slept in and got a late start. We introduced the gals to one of favorite restaurants, BJs Brew House, and did a little shopping in Vacaville.
Due to our late and large lunches we just munched on homemade bruchetta and watched a movie Saturday evening.
Sunday after the early service at church we all loaded up and spent the sunny day in Napa! We are member's at Mondavi Winery, so we took their tour and did a tasting. After that we headed to lunch at our favorite, Gott's Roadside stand. Think milkshakes and onion rings, fish tacos and sweet potato fries, burgers and homemade iced tea, YUM! Our third and final stop was at the sparkling wine tasting room, Mumm.
Monday = shopping! I took the gals to visit our "fancy" grocery store, where we also had lunch. I purchased my birthday present from J, a brand new, state of the art food processor. And we may or may not have spent too much money on Lands End clothing at Sears.
Tuesday we had planned to go to San Fransisco, but we didn't get tickets on the ferry to Alcatraz soon enough. So that trip got moved to Wednesday and we spent the day at the local outlet mall instead.
Wednesday was chilly but beautiful and our trip to Alcatraz was perfect (if you don't count the strangely heavy mid-week, mid-morning traffic that caused us to miss our ferry and have to wait 30 minutes for the next one). Because of the nice weather we had incredible views of the city and the Golden Gate bridge. Here are my pictures:
After Alcatraz, we went to Pier 39 for lunch and indulged in a ton of shrimp and crab. We also happened to be there during their tulip festival so everything was beautiful with hundreds of flowers. After lunch we saw the sea lions and did a little shopping. We got some giant ice cream cones, we couldn't resist the smell of the homemade waffle cones as we walked by, and then headed home.
Thursday we headed back to Napa, but instead of wine we strolled around downtown and did some more shopping. The weather was quite wet and cold, but we still had fun! We stumbled upon a tavern for lunch that ended up being a hit. I think the best part of the day though was the cupcakery! They have been featured on TV and won a show called cupcake wars. The cupcakes were awesome.
And then one by one my Aunt left (Friday) and then my Mom left (Saturday) and the house was all quiet. But what a fantastic trip! We all had so much fun and we are absolutely doing it again.
