Farewell June

Where did this month go? I honestly can not believe that next week starts July!

This past week was a very busy one for me. I volunteered in the craft room at VBF (Vacation Bible Fun) at the church we have been attending. It was every morning until noon and it involved organizing around 130 kids for a different craft each day. We are talking ages Kindergarten to sixth grade with a variety of items such as paint, glue and stickers! But it was fun and I was able to meet a lot of nice ladies, all of whom were Air Force wives and most of whom had kids that they home schooled.

Jared had two sims this week but no flights. They have started getting their new pilots from summer slam (moving time in the Military) and they take priority getting spun back up and current. He may have a flight next week, but we aren't sure. His squadron is due back from their deployment soon and by August we should be part of a full and totally functioning unit! I guess we'll get to see what a typical schedule will be like late this summer.

My last news for today is my new garden! OK, it's a pretty mini garden, but I have some pots with growing things again and that makes me very happy. Jared and I spent Saturday morning at Lowe's with a gift card and came home with some red, white and blue petunias, yellow Dahlias and an herb garden. I am SOOOO happy to have fresh herbs back! I've got 2 basil plants (which I've already used), 1 parsley and 1 rosemary. Once they get bigger I'll spread them out, but for now it's prefect.

Also thought I'd share a recent sunset. The picture doesn't do it justice! You know the saying red sky at night? Well that was the reddest sky I have ever seen.

New House!!!!

This Monday I got a call from the base housing office to inform us that we had been assigned a home! it is one of 36 new construction homes currently being built for Company Grade Officers (aka. CGO housing). We do not have any dates since construction is still going on, but Tuesday we went and signed a lease hold which gaurantees us a home when they are ready! We got to see the exact house on a map of the neighborhood, we know our new address and we even drove by the house on our way home. We can't see much because the road is closed for the construction, but we did glimpse the front and could see scafolding still up.

We have been told that we could move anytime from August to November. I'd be happy with sometime in October; that way our 6 month lease on the apartment would be up and we could get moved and settled before Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I have some links below with all the housing information that we have so ya'll can see it too!

Link #1: Our new house is on the road with "green" houses. If you turn in at the closest entrance, our house is on the right hand side, the first house after the little cauldasac.

See You Later

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." —John 14:27

Yesterday my Uncle, Tim Adams, passed away very suddenly. Our thoughts, many prayers and lots of love are with my Aunt Mary and her three girls. I wish I was closer, not because I can really do much, but just to give them hugs and tell them how much they are loved face to face.

Uncle Tim's obituary and service arrangements can be found at the link below. Although we know it is not "goodbye" but merely "see you later" it is still a hard time for some people that we love very dearly.

"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” —John 16:33

Three Years

"Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned." -Song of Solomon 8:7

Can it already have been three years?! I guess so ... and what an adventure filled three years it has been. We've lived in three states: Delaware, Oklahoma and now California! Jared went from a trainee to a fully qualified C-17 copilot! We have had some hard times, but mostly happy and fun ones! We feel truly blessed and still so in love.

Here is how we spent our anniversary! (Our big gift this year was our trip to Maui last month!)

Trip Recap

After my last post things got BUSY! After returning to California they have continued to be ... BUSY! But here's some catching up :)

Saturday afternoon (6/12/10) Jared spent time at his Uncle's house watching soccer with Jim and Jack and catching up on guy time with his family. His Mom and I headed to a local quilt shop and picked the pattern and fabric for his Mom's first attempt at a quilt which she is making for us! Very exciting. Saturday evening we had a giant 6 handed round of Hand and Foot at the Scherffs with Luke, Barbara, Cathy, Scott, Jared and myself.

Sunday morning we got up and went to church and then came home and had a fantastic homemade brunch! I had no idea Jared loved blueberry pancakes so much. Since that was Jared's last day in Ohio his family came over later that afternoon and we had a big cookout. Mom and I tried a few new recipes (hamburgers and onion rings that both were AWESOME!) and we all had a good time with a Euchre tournament afterwards.

Monday was yucky because Jared had to leave and go back to California for work. We met his Mom and Luke for lunch at Jimmy Johns (YUM) for sandwiches before heading to the airport in Cleveland. Jared made it home in fine form around 11pm Eastern time and was back and busy at work the rest of the week.

Tuesday was a busy day for me! Mom, Dan and I headed to Abbie and Ryan's house in Marietta to help them finish packing and to load their big 24 foot moving truck! It was great to see them both and we had fun, ate some great pizza for lunch and then, sadly, said goodbye so they could finish getting ready to move to Florida. The drove all day Wednesday and made it safely to Orlando. They are settling in and Abbie starts her new teaching job in August. (This day also demonstrated my major lack of upper body strength! My arms were sore for days...)

Wednesday was another busy day for me. I met my Grandma and Grandpa Lyons for lunch with Luke at Olive Garden; Grandma and I had some really fantastic soup! Then I went and got my hair done by my favorite hairdresser ever! (Since high school actually). After hair, it was on to Price park to meet Collen and Tim and play with Emma. It was a perfect day for the park! After the park it was straight to Mom's office where we met up and then went to visit Grandma Esther and have dinner at Grill 39. I think those were the best chicken fingers I have ever had! After dinner we went back to Mom's work and I sat through a (thankfully short!) city meeting for old times sake. It was worth it though, because we got ice cream on the way home.

Thursday was more of a relaxing day spent drinking iced tea and reading outside. I did get to spend some time with Dad, the Lyons Grandparents and Great Aunt Mary that evening.

Friday was girls day with Momma. We started at the National First Ladies Library and then went to Ida Saxton McKinley's historic home and were given a tour by Barbara Bush! That was a lot of fun and I would love to go back around Christmas sometime. Then we met up with some old and dear friends, Pam and Carey, for tea at the First Ladies Tea Room. Amazing tea, fabulous food, lovely atmosphere and perfect company! (well almost perfect, we were missing Abbie!) After tea Mom and I went and did some shopping and then picked up Luke and Dan and finished the day off with a giant dinner at Hartville Kitchen. I got my favorite black raspberry pie and ice cream and was completely stuffed!

Saturday Luke was the star of the day as he graduated his paramedic course! Momma, Dan, Stephanie, me, Dad, Ron, Grandma and Grandpa, and Great Aunt Mary all came to see him get his certificates and tour his classrooms and labs. We got to practice intubating and IVs and reading cardiac monitors and all sorts of exciting things! That evening we, Mom, Dan, Luke and I, took a picnic to Blossom and got to attend a live broadcasting of the Prairie Home Companion. It was hilarious and the music (the Kentucky Thunder) was great! I love Blossom events and I was so happy we got to go while I was in Ohio. Really, a fabulous day!

Sunday was another yucky day. It was my turn to head back to Cali and with the cat in tow. Christopher has never been on a plane and I was really nervous about him flying cargo. It was a long day - I hate flying alone! But I got an Aunty Anne's pretzel in Cleveland and a Jamba Juice in Houston and that got me through. Turns out the cat did just fine, my bag didn't get lost and all was well!

And .... in a nutshell that was the rest of the trip! Pictures to follow ...

Sad News

My Great Uncle, Bill Lange, passed away this Tuesday morning June 8, 2010. Jared and I were able to see and visit with him and my Great Aunt while we were home at Christmas. We will also be going to his calling hours since we are in Ohio this weekend. I know he will be missed and we are praying for his immediate family! His obituary can be found at the link below.

Friday Already?

It isn't fair that when you'd like time to slow down, it goes into light-speed. This time a week ago Jared and I were making the final preparations for our trip to Ohio. And here it is, a week later and I just can not believe how fast it has gone!
Our trip "home" was long but good and there were not delays, or lost luggage. We got picked up by Jared's parents and spent the evening (what was left of it by that time) at my Mom and Step-Dad's eating cake and pie and visiting.

Sunday we had planned on church, but both of us were so tired from getting up at 4am to catch our plane and the 3 hour time change that we slept right through it. Instead we got a big homemade breakfast from Momma. Yum!

Sunday afternoon we spent at the Scherff's playing cards. Then it was back to my parents for a big roast dinner and to spend time with one of my friends, Stephanie.

Monday was Cedar Point day. Our group consisted of Jared, me, Abbie, Luke, Jack and to our great surprise, Ryan! It was a beautiful day, sunny but not too hot. The lines for the roller coasters weren't long. We got to indulge in horrible (for you, not tasting) food. I am not a rider, so I held stuff while the others went on the coasters. But I did get in some smaller, tamer rides.

We met up with my Dad, his parents and a cousin and her baby for a late-ish dinner that night. It was also a late birthday celebration for both Abbie and Jared. We had a good time.

Tuesday while Luke went to class, Jared and his Dad golfed, Abbie, Dad and I went to Amish country. We hit our favorite places: Lehmen's, The Ashery Country Store, had lunch at a local Amish dive and stopped at Heini's Cheese House. I mostly picked up snacks and baking supplies. But we had another beautiful day to be out and about.

Tuesday evening we got to meet out new Step-Nephew, Cole, for the first time! He is just a little doll. Very tiny, obviously, since he was only 6 days old. Not at all fussy; in fact I think he only woke up once to get his diaper changed and eat that whole night! Jared wasn't too sure about the baby, and wouldn't hold him. But it was fun seeing him and Ashlee! We grilled chicken and had bruschetta and pasta salad, etc.

Wednesday was a wet day; it just poured! Despite the rain, Jared and I ventured out and met his Mom and Barbara for lunch at Jimmy Johns. We love that place and haven't seen any in California so we had to get our fix! Jared spent the afternoon at his parents while I did the shopping and some prep work for our June cooking club menu. Then I went over to the in laws for a cookout with them and another of Jared's cousins and his girlfriend. Since the weather was bad we stayed in and played cards.
Thursday was girls day for my Momma, Sissy and I. We got pedicures, went shopping, got Aunty Anne's pretzels (YUM!!) and made our June cooking club menu together. Talk about time flying, that day went way too fast! But we had a blast and discovered Baked Alaska. Another YUM!

Today is another cloudy, grey day. It's warm and muggy, but not really raining. Mom's back at work and Abbie is gone to finish moving preparations in Marietta. They are moving to Florida next week! Luke's been at school all day and works tonight. Jared and his Dad are golfing again. I did get to go to lunch with them at Cheeseburger In Paradise before they hit the course. (Another great restaurant that we don't have in Cali).

Tonight is pizza night! We are also planning on going out for some ice cream at the local custard stand later. That is yet another thing we haven't found in California, a good local ice cream place. You know, the kind that is only open during the summer...?

More Birthdays!

June second is my sissy's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABBIE! I am pretty excited because Jared and I are taking a last minute trip to ohio next week and we'll get to see her before she moves to orlando for a new teaching job.

However, June 2nd was also eventful because it made us an Aunt and Uncle! My Step-Sister had her baby boy, Cole, last night. The official stats are: 6 lbs. 4 oz., 19 1/2 inches long, born 8:31pm, June 2, 2010! So we'll get to meet the newest little fellow while we are at home as well.

Two days, four birthdays! That is a lot.
