Baby Journal: Week 17

Pregnancy #1

Month #5

Week #17 (12/1/13 – 12/7/13)

Weight Gain #0  (in 5 months I’ve gained 7# total)

Bump See photo

Baby Nicknames  Bean and baby

Symptoms  Dare I say I’ve made it through the week without nausea?! (Yes, still taking my meds.) But hello heartburn! I’ve got to eat something before bed, take tums and have popped several zantac this week as well. Ouch!

Cravings  Pickles, salt, cheese

Emotions  Normal

Sleep Dreams this week have been bothersome. Vivid enough to wake me up and some scary ones too.

The big moment of the week  Made it to month #5! It’s going fast and slow at the same time. I’m also definitely feeling baby move. It usually feels like someone is flicking me from inside. I’m also starting to freak out a little that we’re going to have another human being living with us that we’re responsible for shortly…

Weather  FREEZING! We had our first real blizzard/big snow. High’s are preceded by a negative sign with lows and wind chills in the –20 to -35 range.

Current events  Nelson Mandella died this week. The Big 10 Championship.

Worries  This emerging heartburn… and an angry return of the nausea (since that’s what happened last time I felt good).

Looking Forward to  Our Dec. 19th ultrasound! Going home for Christmas!!

IMAG0290 Aside from the baby OSU jersey, and crib this is the only other thing we’d got for baby. A Vera Diaper bag. :) This week, we got 2 gifts in the mail. Babyators (baby aviator sunglasses, white) from our friends in Texas who are due with their first in February. And a pregnancy ornament from J’s cousin and his wife (it’s a cute gingerbread couple with a “bun in the oven”). How very fun and thoughtful!

Baby Journal: Week 16

Pregnancy #1

Month #4

Week #16 (11/24/13 – 11/30/13)

Weight Gain #0

Bump It’s slowly but surely getting bigger each week. But I’d say it’s still small.

Baby Nicknames  Baby, bean

Symptoms  Still a bit of nausea, but it’s been better this week.

Cravings  Pickles! Salt. Fried food (especially cheese sticks).

Emotions  Nothing unusual

Sleep It’d be better if I wasn’t going to the bathroom 4 times. And I’ve been battling night time heartburn!

The big moment of the week  We had Dr. appt. #2 and heard bean’s heartbeat for the first time. A strong 150. Everything looks good. And we scheduled our big mid-pregnancy ultrasound for December 19th!

Weather  Cold. Flurries. It’s white outside still from our last snow. Some negative temps, but mostly it’s been in the 20’s.

Current events  Ohio State beat that team from up North!! Close game too. We had Thanksgiving dinner this week. I made all the food and wasn’t sick and even got to enjoy eating it! We also set up all the Christmas decorations around the house.

Worries  Nothing much right now

Looking Forward to  Our ultrasound in December!

Busy sewing

I'm here, just busy with Christmas preparations. I've got a project that requires hand sewing to be finished and that (along with reading Harry Potter if I'm going to be completely honest) has taken up every free moment. I've also been doing last minute shopping. I'd really like to get gifts wrapped and sent out by tomorrow afternoon... we shall see! One of the many disadvantages to living far from home is that you've got to be super organized and ahead of schedule to get things in the mail early for holidays and birthdays. That's not usually an issue for me, but I am now a firm believer in "pregnancy brain". I can't seem to remember anything or keep myself organized at all lately! It's quite frustrating.

We are actually experiencing a "warm" day here. It was 4 degrees when I woke up this morning and supposed to stay positive, with a high of 8, all day. I'm sure the clouds producing the snow that is softly falling are partly responsible for the small increase in temperature. It seems to snow almost constantly here, but just flurries, not real substantial snow. Last night before bed I was watching it snow under the street light and it looked exactly like it was raining glitter! All sparkles and gold, no white. It was really pretty awesome.

Well, the timer for my chai tea has beeped. I'm off to add the sugar and milk and keep on with my sewing. (Imagine Christmas music playing and a just cleaned house from this morning please.)

More baby journals to come this week. I'm hoping that when I post on Sunday or Monday with week 18 I'll be caught up to real time and I can quite overloading everyone with baby news, complaints about nausea and my irritating night time bathroom habits. It really doesn't make for great reading I know. But this blog gets printed and I need a record! :)

Stay warm. 13 sleeps until Christmas :)

Baby Journal: Week 15

Pregnancy #1

Month #4

Week #15 (11/17/13 – 11/23/13)

Weight Gain #1

Bump Still small, but it’s there.

Baby Nicknames  Bean

Symptoms  Some nausea on and off, though not as bad overall this week. I can’t lay on my back without getting dizzy.

Cravings  Cliché I know, but pickles! And anything fried.

Emotions  Nothing strange

Sleep  Sleeping fine other than getting up several times a night to use the bathroom.

The big moment of the week  I *may* have started to feel the baby move. Every so often it feels like bubbles, or a muscle spasm where it makes no sense to have one.

Weather  Freezing! It’s been –10 at night, yesterday’s high was 5 whole degrees. We got snow Wednesday/Thursday and it’s still white out there! (Our Thanksgiving turkey is chilling in a snowdrift out back)

Current events  “Obamacare” is the main topic of conversation as the implementation of it online basically failed. Iran’s nuclear talks.

Worries  That everything continues to progress smoothly, that baby is healthy.

Looking Forward to  Our doctor’s appointment this coming Tuesday (26th).

Week #14 (11/10/13 – 11/16/13)

Weight Gain #2

Bump See picture below for the growing evidence

Symptoms Still have that underlying all day nausea and am still taking the Unisom + B6 (plus a few Zofran). Heartburn has also started.

Cravings Fried foods: french fries, mozzarella sticks, etc. Basically junk and nothing else really sounds good. I’ve got zero appetite.

Emotions Nothing new or wildly crazy

Sleep I am uncomfortable on my back, so I’ve been doing a lot more tossing and turning.

The big moment of the week Got a call about the second thyroid level, it was normal so everything is going well. And, we’ve got a crib! My Mom & Step-Dad bought us (surprise, out of the blue) our crib and mattress. It’s already put together!
IMAG0265

Weather Cold. Mostly. It’s been down to 1 degree overnight and in the teens/twenties during the day. But then we had a random day of 55 degrees last week… Hello sinus headache!

Current events Major typhoon in the Philippines; thousands killed and millions displaced and without power, water, food, etc.

Worries I’m going to be nauseous until May.

Looking Forward to Maybe eventually feeling better…? Doctor’s appointment the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

Old man winter

When I woke up today the weather app on my phone said it was –13 degrees and felt like –30. This was later confirmed when my nose froze shut whilst walking into the commissary. But while the temperatures are subarctic, the snow and blizzard conditions of earlier this week are gone and the sun is out in force.

The photos below are of our first really big snow of the year. It started on Sunday evening and really didn’t stop until Thursday morning. The worst of it was Tuesday night and all day Wednesday. The first two pictures are from our front room windows on Wednesday morning around 8am. It was darker because it was snowing and blowing, but even a sunny 8am is fairly dim. The sun comes up here sometime just after 8 and goes down by about 4:30. Short days and long nights! The third picture is out our back patio door. And the last is the front again, but later when it was snowing quite hard. But it’s difficult to capture falling snow with a still shot.

So, we survived our first blizzard. This is why we moved on base. So J doesn’t have to drive 30 minutes from town in this kind of mess!

IMAG0291IMAG0292-1IMAG0295 IMAG0296

In non-weather related news here are more pictures of our Christmas tree this year. The first one was an accident. I’m not sure how I took it, but I LOVE it. This is what the Christmas tree has always looked like to me without my glasses on and now everyone can see through my eyes. Sometimes being half blind makes things prettier don’t you think? IMAG0294IMAG0293

We’ve also made the first batch of puppy chow this season. One perk of our weather is that it froze outside and didn’t take up room in my much too small freezer.

So long as we have good weather to travel in during the next few months I won’t complain about the rest of it! I’m perfectly happy to stay at home and read, sew, drink tea and eat puppy chow!

Baby Journal: Second Trimester!

Pregnancy #1

Month #4

Week #13 (11/3/13 – 11/9/13)

Weight Gain #0

Bump  I suddenly have a bump. I “popped” on Thursday of this week. It’s not very big, but it’s more firm and there’s no sucking it in anymore.

Baby Nicknames  Bean or Baby

Symptoms Well… I started the week great! Off my medicine for morning sickness and doing well. Then BAM! NAUSEOUS! Probably the worst I’ve felt thus far. Back on my medicine, still fighting it pretty badly. I’m honestly really bummed because I thought this crappy morning sickness was on it’s way out for good.

Cravings Nothing. Although pickles sound and taste good. mostly crackers and coke or ginger ale this week for me.

Emotions Just tired of feeling like crap I guess.

Sleep  Been sleeping fine.

The big moment of the week  We went viral with our news! We posted the Buckeye jersey picture on Facebook. It was fun reading all the comments.  I also got a call from Dr. Wildey that the lab for my thyroid was low. So back I went and got stuck again on Tuesday for another lab. Thyroid medication may be in my future…?

Weather  Cold. teen & 20’s at night, 30-40 during the day. It’s snowed a few times this week. Still zero accumulation.

Current events  The big news story is NSA leaks and the U.S. spying on other countries (mainly allies in Europe). The Country Music Awards were this week.

Worries  I’m never going to be un-nauseous again.

Looking Forward to  Feeling better (see a theme here?) Our next doctor’s appointment. Scheduling the 20 week ultrasound. Christmas!

Baby Journal: Week 12

Pregnancy #1

Month #3

Week #12 (10/27 – 11/2)

Weight Gain -1#

Bump  I think I’ve got a bump. At least I feel much thicker around the middle. This week I finally feel like bending over or buttoning up jeans or eating just isn’t the same. I feel a little squashed, like I’ve got a tire around my middle.

Baby Nicknames Bean

Symptoms Feeling better! Haven’t really had nausea. Been exercising. Had a good chiropractor appointment on the 28th. And I stopped the Unisom last day of the 12th week (Saturday) so here goes nothing…!

Cravings I’m starting to get my sweet tooth back just in time for Halloween candy!

Emotions Nothing unusual.

Sleep Not sleeping well. Lots of tossing and turning (for no apparent reason) and usually 3 trips to the bathroom/night.

The big moment of the week J told a lot of people our big news this week: his Grandparent’s in Florida, his Uncle and Cousin and two of his good AF friends from Cali. I also told the rest of our non-immediate family and friends that didn’t know, including Grandparent’s in Columbus and Barb in Cali). It’s still not “FB official” yet.

Weather Colder. Down into the teens and twenties a few days/nights. A bit more sunny. No snow!

Current events Halloween :) The base already had trick or treat, but we’ve had our pumpkins out and lit at night and I’ve been reading Harry Potter (#4) and watching favorite movies (Arsenic and Old Lace).

Worries Still praying that baby is healthy and growing and there are no complications!

Looking Forward to My second doctor visit the week of Thanksgiving. Going home for Christmas!!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

As always, we decorated our house for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving. We had some technical difficulties on Friday and ended up at Lowe’s after we ate dinner out at the club. Buying a whole lot of Christmas lights for our big tree. by that time I think we’d had it up and down about 3 times. So most of our decorating actually happened on Saturday and Sunday.

The airplane or patriotic tree. It’s in the dining room and I can see part of it from my spot on the couch.
IMAG0285

Our big Scherff ornament that Mike and Lynn bought us last year has place of honor by the TV.  IMAG0286

And the nutcracker that J brought me from Germany is out next to my Grandma P’s candle wreath in the living room.  IMAG0287
I put the nativity on our little entry way table. It’s a bit squished, but I can see it from my living room spot and it’s a place the cats (and by cats I mean Winston) doesn’t normally bother.IMAG0288

And the table is set with the Christmas placemats! We also moved the table normally in the living room out for the big tree and it’s got our advent wreath on it.  IMAG0289

Last but not least, the main attraction!  Our tree. I need to take another picture when it’s all dark. It’s right behind the couch in the living room, but there isn’t really a great place for it anyplace else… and this way everyone can see it when they pass our house outside. IMG_20131130_165342

Not sure my Christmas village is going to make it our this year. With a rambunctious kitten running all over the place I’m just afraid it’ll get broken. We still need to hang out stockings. And I’m washing the Christmas dishes today!

Mailed our Christmas cards on Monday. And I believe 98% of our Christmas shopping is also done. Now to wrap and mail it all.

Thanksgiving

I woke up about 8 o’clock Thanksgiving morning. Just in time to see the sun coming up for the day. The days certainly are as short during the winter as they are long in the summer here! It was snowing ever so lightly and just perfect. I made homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast and we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
IMAG0273-1 IMAG0274

The turkey went in the oven about 9:30am and we ate our big meal about 12:15. Andy came over and another single guy from our squadron. We enjoyed the food and there were inevitably lots of leftovers! IMAG0275

I made the boys take a few pictures that night before Andy left. We mostly watched football in the afternoon. Although we did have a game of Sorry which I won!  IMAG0277 IMAG0278

Then we spent “black Friday” not shopping but at home eating leftovers! We also went out to the country club for dinner. (You can only eat so much turkey.)
IMG_20131129_090455IMAG0282 IMAG0284

So it was kind of a quiet Turkey Day, but I felt good and enjoyed eating! And we had lots of time together to just kick back and relax which was nice. Last Thanksgiving as a family of 2…?!

Our life together begins
